1. Spend a Day at the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
This is one of my favorite recommendations for families, especially if you’re trying to escape the summer heat.
The Shark Reef features more than 2,000 animals including sharks, giant sea turtles, rays, jellyfish, crocodiles, and exotic fish from around the world. Walking through the underwater tunnel while sharks swim overhead is something kids (and adults) always remember.
2. Visit the Springs Preserve
Most tourists never hear about this place, and that’s exactly why I recommend it.
Springs Preserve is one of Las Vegas’ hidden gems. It combines museums, botanical gardens, walking trails, interactive exhibits, and educational activities that teach visitors how Las Vegas was founded.
It’s a great way to experience the history of our city while giving kids room to explore.
3. Explore the Adventuredome at Circus Circus
If your kids love rides, this indoor amusement park is a winner.
Because it’s completely indoors, it’s perfect during the hot summer months or if the weather isn’t cooperating.
You’ll find roller coasters, bumper cars, arcade games, mini golf, laser tag, and rides for children of every age.
4. Visit the Discovery Children’s Museum
Located near Downtown Las Vegas, this museum is one of the best family attractions in Southern Nevada.
Everything is hands-on.
Kids can build, climb, experiment, create art, learn about science, and burn off plenty of energy while they’re at it.
Parents usually enjoy it just as much as the kids.
5. Watch the Bellagio Fountains
Sometimes the best attractions don’t cost a penny.
The Bellagio Fountain Show is one of the most iconic experiences in Las Vegas.
Every performance is choreographed to music, and no two shows feel exactly the same.
If you’ve never seen it before, it’s absolutely worth making part of your evening.
6. Ride the High Roller Observation Wheel
Located at The LINQ Promenade, the High Roller offers incredible views of the entire Las Vegas Valley.
The cabins are fully enclosed and air-conditioned, making the 30-minute ride comfortable year-round.
I always recommend going around sunset or after dark when the Strip lights begin to glow.
7. Visit the Flamingo Wildlife Habitat
Here’s another attraction that many visitors simply walk past.
Hidden behind the Flamingo Hotel is a beautiful wildlife habitat filled with flamingos, koi fish, turtles, ducks, waterfalls, and lush landscaping.
It’s peaceful, completely free, and perfect for younger children.
8. Explore AREA15
Despite its name, AREA15 isn’t just for adults.
Families can enjoy interactive art installations, virtual reality experiences, immersive exhibits, games, and unique attractions unlike anything else in Las Vegas.

If you’re looking for something different, this place is fantastic.
The Pinball Hall of Fame houses hundreds of vintage pinball machines and classic arcade games.
Unlike most arcades, the prices are incredibly reasonable, and parents often end up having just as much fun reliving their childhood as the kids do discovering these classic games.
10. Cool Off at Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas
If you’re visiting Las Vegas during the warmer months, a day at Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas is one of the best ways for the entire family to beat the desert heat.
Located in the southwest part of the valley, this popular water park features thrilling water slides, a relaxing lazy river, wave pool, splash zones for younger children, and attractions for every age. Whether you’re looking for adrenaline-pumping rides or simply want to float and relax, there’s something for everyone.
As a Las Vegas local, I can tell you this is one of the area’s favorite summertime destinations for both residents and visitors. If you’re planning your vacation between late spring and early fall, I highly recommend setting aside a day to enjoy everything Wet’n’Wild has to offer.

A Few Insider Tips from a Las Vegas Local
After living here for more than five decades, here are a few tips that will make your family vacation much more enjoyable:
• During the summer, try to plan outdoor activities before 10:00 a.m. or after 6:00 p.m. Temperatures can easily exceed 110°F.
• Always carry water. Even when you don’t feel sweaty, the dry desert air can dehydrate you quickly.
• Wear comfortable shoes. Families are often surprised that they end up walking 15,000 to 25,000 steps each day on the Strip.
• Don’t underestimate travel time. What looks close on a map can take much longer than expected because of pedestrian bridges, crowds, and traffic.
• Many of the best experiences in Las Vegas are completely free. Between the Bellagio Fountains, Flamingo Wildlife Habitat, hotel conservatories, and simply exploring the Strip, you can have an amazing day without spending a fortune.
